Improving Student Outcomes Across Texas
Public schools across the state of Texas can now analyze their academic data alongside community input to create best-fit schools for thousands of students and families.
Improving Student Outcomes Across Texas
Texas Education Agency’s System of Great Schools (SGS) Network helps district leaders ensure that more students have access to better schools every year by increasing the number of high-quality, best-fit options. The SGS framework includes a push for districts to prioritize authentic family and community engagement in their decision making. As part of a collaborative consultancy, CoSpero supports large public school districts across Texas annually to help ensure selected school improvement actions reflect the needs and desires of families.
Magnifying Needs Through International Outreach
To help frame districts’ strategic planning process, CoSpero developed “Vision Week”—a focused series of events to gather input from students, families and community members about how the district can ensure great opportunities for all students. CoSpero partners closely with district project teams at the beginning of each school year and SGS cycle to understand specific context and district goals. Together, we develop a learning agenda with students, families, and the broader community in mind in order to guide the development of a community engagement plan executed as Vision Week.
Providing Actionable Recommendations to Transform Schools
At the conclusion of each Vision Week, CoSpero produces robust reports for each district to articulate recommendations reflective of community input to district leaders. Our findings from Vision Week complement a quantitative data analysis to provide decision-makers with a comprehensive view of schools so they can best align school actions with the interest of stakeholders. As Vision Week has been deemed an invaluable process to gauge community need and demand in the SGS process, TEA tasked CoSpero to codify the work in a toolkit format. In response, CoSpero developed A Guide to Community-Informed Annual School Planning, a workbook available to districts across the state.
